I honestly don't really care about the dice or the bookmark, accidents happen Free League does great stuff and have all my trust. Got the new book in the mail the other day. There's so much opportunity to surprise your players with a Middle-earth that's the same, but very different from what they have come to expect.Īnyway. Eriador is rife with people and conflict, Rohan isn't Rohan, The Kin-Strife, etc. And yes, I know "you can just do whatever," but ain't nobody got time for that!Īnd although I totally understand why it's not the right choice for TOR, I've also come to respect and love the choice ICE made to set the majority of MERP in the middle of the third age there's just a lot more stuff to do in general. I always love the focus TOR brings to the table, but it does feel a little constraining sometimes. How about some Gondorian political intrigue, burgeoning civil wars, border clashes, ranks of soldiers clashing with orcs, etc. I'm just, honestly, a bit tired of hobbits and the wild I love it, but been there, done that. To echo a bit of what others have said, I do think it's in some ways smart to have especially the starter set focus on hobbits and adventures that exist on a smaller scale (pun sort of intended) is a great way to create a space for beginners to get into Middle-earth ever since TOR 1e I've been hoping for books and campaigns set in and around Gondor in particular (as well as the elusive Moria release).

You still might be able to coax them into giving it a shot- particularly because of how hard it will likely be to collect the old books if you don’t already have them. It really is better with the original system, and the Starter Set’s specifically designed to ease players in to playing TOR. That being said, I never thought that 5e was a particularly good fit for TOR, and I sympathize with the position you’re in. But the Wilderland and Eriador content was all ported over.) (To be more specific: almost all of 1e was adapted for AiME, though Wikipedia is telling me that Rohan Region Guide was a PDF-only release and is thus inaccessible now. It managed to convey the feel of TOR well enough, and 2e’s big changes were either mechanical tweaks under the chassis or the move to Eriador, and as long as you’ve got the 2e materials you should be able to accommodate the geography shift. Click to expand.Keep in mind that this is based on brief perusals in the ol’ FLGS half a decade back, but: I believe that the Adventures in Middle-Earth line, if you can get your paws on it, should have the information you need to translate from 2e to AiME easily enough, as long as you’re willing to do some adversary homebrewing.
